Violent Start to 2025 in New York City
As the new year of 2025 began, two men were tragically killed and eight others were injured in a series of violent incidents across New York City, according to police reports.
The first homicide occurred when a 50-year-old man was found with a slash to his neck at the corner of West 137th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard in Harlem around 4:20 a.m. He was rushed to Harlem Hospital but was pronounced dead, as confirmed by the authorities.
Another deadly shooting took place in the Bronx, where Mario Fowler, 46, was fatally shot and a 23-year-old man was injured in front of a building on East 170th Street near Clay Avenue in the Claremont Village section. The shooter approached a group outside the building and opened fire, resulting in the tragic outcome.
A 39-year-old man, considered a person of interest, was taken into custody for questioning by the authorities.
The motive behind these violent attacks is currently under investigation.
Further incidents included a stabbing at 38th Street and 8th Avenue where a 51-year-old man was injured. Additionally, two men were stabbed during a fight at West 49th Street and Eighth Avenue, while three men were slashed on the head on Grand Street near Roebling Street in Williamsburg. All victims were taken to medical centers for treatment.
As the violence extended into the daytime, a 40-year-old man was shot in the neck outside St. James Park on Grand Concourse near East 192nd Street around 1 p.m. He was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital and is in stable condition.
Police are actively investigating these incidents, and no arrests have been made in connection with the fatal shootings and stabbings.
