Authorities in Kentucky have arrested five individuals for allegedly imprisoning a 2-year-old boy in a caged area filled with feces and urine in their home, as reported by the police.
After receiving a tip about a possible caged child, authorities discovered the toddler locked behind a padlocked metal and wooden enclosure in the Carrollton residence, the Carrollton Police Department stated in a news release.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by McClatchy News, the room where the suspects allegedly kept the boy was covered in urine and feces.
Following the distressing discovery, two additional children were removed from the residence on 7th Street by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, the police mentioned.
The police did not disclose the relationships between the adults and children.
Brenda Chilton, 71, William Mahoney, 72, Codey Johnson, 29, Tammy Simmons, 52, and Shelby Turocy, 28, have been taken into custody and charged with criminal abuse and wanton endangerment.
Additionally, Turocy is facing charges for possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
The suspects are currently detained at the Carroll County Detention Center while the police investigation is ongoing.
