Authorities in Holtsville, N.Y., are investigating the tragic deaths of two young sisters who apparently drowned in a pond near their Long Island apartment complex.
The girls, ages 2 and 4, were reported missing by a family member on Saturday afternoon. After a search of the apartment complex, the girls were found unresponsive in a nearby pond around 3:30 p.m. Lifesaving measures were attempted, but the girls were pronounced dead at the hospital.
Suffolk County homicide detectives are leading the investigation, though details surrounding the incident have not been disclosed at this time.
Holtsville, located about 50 miles east of Manhattan, is mourning the loss of the two young sisters.
