Seems like a detour to Flavortown led to trouble.
Reports surfaced that two trucks carrying 24,240 bottles of Santo Tequila, a brand co-owned by celebrity chef Guy Fieri and former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar, were stolen in Laredo, Texas. The tequila, valued at $1 million, took 39 months to produce, according to PEOPLE.com.
Fieri expressed disappointment, stating, “We’ve worked so hard. This is our best year we’ve ever had in Santo. We just had all this momentum, and now, whatever’s on the shelf is all people are going to get.”
The theft, which occurred on Nov. 9 or Nov. 10, involved 440 cases of Santo tequila. Fieri and Hagar were only made aware of the heist on Thursday.
Fieri mentioned the timing couldn’t be worse as the holiday season is Santo’s busiest period. He also raised concerns about potential motives behind the theft, suggesting it could be an attempt to disrupt the brand’s success in the market.
Law enforcement agencies such as Laredo police, Los Angeles’ Cargo Criminal Apprehension Team, and CargoNet are currently investigating the incident. Fieri has offered a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the recovery of the stolen tequila.
Reflecting on the situation, Fieri remarked, “It’s like a movie. I never in a million years thought this was coming down the pike like this, but it’s real.”
