UPLAND, Calif.—A tragic incident unfolded in Southern California as four individuals lost their lives in a harrowing six-minute pursuit by law enforcement that culminated in a fatal two-vehicle crash.
The pursuit began around 1:45 a.m. on a Friday when San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a driver suspected of driving under the influence. Despite multiple attempts to pull the vehicle over, the driver refused to yield, sparking a high-speed chase that lasted six minutes.
Authorities later discovered that the vehicle, a stolen 2018 Hyundai, was carrying a loaded gun in the possession of one of the deceased individuals, as per the sheriff’s department’s news release.
The fatal crash occurred in Upland, a city situated over 33 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, when the Hyundai collided with a 2010 Ford Mustang at an intersection. Subsequently, the Hyundai struck a pole, disintegrated into three parts, and burst into flames.
Tragically, the five male occupants of the Hyundai were ejected from the vehicle, resulting in the deaths of four individuals at the scene. A 13-year-old boy, also in the Hyundai, sustained injuries but is expected to recover. The occupants of the Mustang, a 35-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, were transported to the hospital for precautionary measures. The identities of those involved have not been disclosed.
Further details regarding the incident are currently unavailable.
