FLORENCE, Ky.—A tragic incident occurred during an early Saturday morning party at a home in northern Kentucky, resulting in four fatalities and three injuries, according to police reports.
The suspected shooter, identified as Chase Garvey, 21, also lost his life after a police pursuit that ended with his car plunging into a ditch, authorities said.
Police Chief Jeff Mallery stated that officers heard gunshots upon arriving at the residence in Florence around 2:50 a.m. Seven individuals were found with gunshot wounds, four of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining three victims were rushed to a Cincinnati hospital in critical condition but were expected to survive.
Chase Garvey reportedly acted alone, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety, police confirmed.
The tragic event took place during a birthday celebration for the homeowner’s 21-year-old son, organized by Melissa Parrett, 44, who unfortunately lost her life in the shooting, Chief Mallery disclosed. The victims also included Shane Miller, 20; Hayden Rybicki, 20; and Delaney Eary, 19.
The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, with Chief Mallery expressing his emotions for the victims, their families, and everyone affected by the incident.
Neighbour Leah Moore recalled hearing what she initially thought were firecrackers in the early hours, only to be later startled by police activity in the vicinity.
Describing the Parrett family as wonderful individuals, Moore expressed her shock and sadness over the tragedy.
Florence, a city of approximately 36,000 residents situated 12 miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio, was shaken by this unprecedented act of violence.
