The aim of the competition is to promote authenticity and beauty in piano arts, as well as to revive the glory of masterpieces from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods. Five contestants advanced to the final round of NTD’s 7th International Piano Competition after competing in the semifinals at the Merkin Hall of Kaufman Music Center in New York on Oct. 17.
The competition’s goal is to promote traditional arts of pure authenticity, goodness, and beauty, and to restore the glory of piano masterpieces from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras. This year’s competition features a specially commissioned piece, “Holy Grace,” a symphonic poem of classical Chinese music for the piano.
Semifinalists were required to perform the commissioned piece and had the opportunity to compete for the “Best Rendition Award of the Commissioned Composition.” They shared their interpretations and understanding of the commissioned piece during the competition.
The finals and winners’ concert will be open to audience members and livestreamed on NTD’s and The Epoch Times’ websites and social media channels. The finalists include Shih-Yeh Lu, Ching-Yi Lin, Jean-Luc Therrien, Tang Hsing Lien, and Robert Neumann.
The schedule for the competition is as follows:
– Finals: Oct. 18, 1:20 p.m. ET
– Winners Concert: Oct. 19, 2 p.m. ET
– Awards Ceremony: Oct. 19, 4:50 p.m. ET
