A tragic incident occurred in Omaha, Nebraska, where a 5-year-old boy in foster care passed away after being left unattended inside a hot SUV for several hours. The foster mother is now facing charges in connection with the child’s death.
Authorities responded to a call at 5:11 p.m. on Wednesday at a beauty salon parking lot after a passerby noticed the boy and alerted the police. The child was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
According to a police statement, it appears that the child was left alone inside the vehicle for an extended period of time leading to the tragic outcome.
The boy’s foster mother, identified as 40-year-old Juanita Piñon of Omaha, was taken into custody and charged with child abuse by neglect resulting in death. It is unclear if she has legal representation at this time. Attempts to reach her for comment were unsuccessful.
The temperature in Omaha had reached 86 degrees (30 Celsius) shortly before the child was discovered.
