Officials have confirmed that on Thursday, a terrorist group launched two separate rocket attacks on northern Israel. The attacks resulted in the deaths of seven people, including four foreign workers and three Israelis. The rockets were fired from Lebanon by the terrorist group Hezbollah.
Among the casualties were an Israeli farmer and four Thai agricultural workers who were killed when rockets landed near Metula, Israel’s northernmost town on the border with Lebanon. Later, a 30-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman were killed when Hezbollah fired approximately 25 rockets from Lebanon, hitting an olive grove in a suburb of the northern Israeli port city of Haifa. Two others were injured in this attack, according to Magen David Adom, Israel’s main emergency medical organization.
This incident marked the deadliest cross-border strikes in Israel since the beginning of October. Israel has stated that its ground invasion of Lebanon is aimed at destroying weapons and infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the seven deaths and vowed to respond to Hezbollah’s attacks. Hezbollah has not claimed responsibility for the rocket attacks.
One day prior to the strikes, the Israeli Air Force reported killing the deputy head of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force, Mustafa Ahmad Shahadi, in a strike in south Lebanon. Shahadi was responsible for numerous terrorist attacks against Israel and overseeing attacks on IDF soldiers in southern Lebanon.
The IDF stated that the strikes in Lebanon targeted command and control centers and terrorist infrastructure used by Hezbollah. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken mentioned ongoing negotiations with Israel for cease-fires in both Lebanon and Gaza.
Efforts are being made to implement U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701 to maintain peace on the border between Hezbollah and Israel. The resolution requires the withdrawal of Hezbollah forces from the border and the deployment of the Lebanese armed forces. Progress has been made in reaching understandings for effective implementation of the resolution. Please rephrase.
