ROCHESTER, N.Y.—A tragic incident unfolded at Maplewood Park in upstate New York on Sunday, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries from a shooting.
Upon receiving reports of shots fired at around 6:20 p.m., Rochester police rushed to the park and discovered several individuals wounded by gunfire.
Regrettably, an individual in their 20s lost their life, another sustained a life-threatening injury, and five others were hospitalized with minor injuries, according to Capt. Greg Bello.
The victim’s identity has not been disclosed pending family notification, Mr. Bello stated.
Various law enforcement agencies, including the Irondequoit Police, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Rochester Police, and New York State Police, responded to the scene. Rochester police confirmed that a gathering was taking place in the vicinity at the time of the incident.
“We are currently unsure of the number of shooters involved,” Mr. Bello remarked. “Our priority is to interview as many witnesses as possible to piece together the events.”
Law enforcement has not apprehended any suspects in connection with the shooting.

Rochester is located approximately 340 miles (547 kilometers) northwest of Manhattan.
