The assault on our traditional forms of constitutional democracy by the Left has resulted in the abolition of important institutions like the secret ballot and same-day voting. Buoyed by these victories, the Left is now targeting judicial independence. Justices Thomas and Alito have faced baseless attacks on their ethics. The Left’s anger over the overturning of Roe v. Wade has led them to attempt to pressure these two esteemed Supreme Court Justices into resigning or recusing themselves from crucial cases related to the 2020 and 2024 elections.
In a previous blog post, I praised Justice Thomas for his unwavering commitment to the rule of law and the exceptional quality of his opinions. Justice Thomas is not swayed by bribes and is arguably the greatest justice in the history of the Supreme Court. His opinions speak for themselves and showcase his integrity. The Left’s targeting of Justice Alito stems from his wife’s decision to fly the U.S. flag upside down as a distress signal following the events of January 6, 2021 and the contentious 2020 election.
Justice Alito’s wife, like many others, expressed concern over perceived irregularities in the election process. She has the right to display the flag in distress or to fly a flag symbolizing her dismay over the state of American politics. The Left’s criticism of the Justices’ wives is unwarranted and violates their First Amendment rights. Justices Thomas and Alito have remained above politics, but their spouses should not be subjected to such scrutiny. The Left’s demands for recusal based on the actions of the Justices’ wives are unfounded and reflect their desperation to regain control of the Supreme Court.
It is crucial for Justices Thomas and Alito to fulfill their constitutional duties and preside over election-related cases without bias. The Left’s attempts to undermine the judiciary threaten the foundation of our democracy. We must stand against any efforts to politicize our independent judiciary and uphold the principles of the Constitution. The safety of the Justices is at risk due to the intense scrutiny they face in public. We must vehemently oppose any threats to the integrity of our life-tenured judiciary.
