The White House has announced that it will host a Juneteenth concert on June 10 as part of Black Music Month celebrations. This concert will be the second Juneteenth concert hosted by the White House since President Joe Biden signed legislation establishing Juneteenth as a federal holiday in 2021. President Biden emphasized the importance of black music in American art and culture, stating that it reflects the nation’s history and values.
Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, holds significant historical importance. The concert is supported by various organizations, including the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, National Endowment for the Arts, and National Endowment for the Humanities.
Additionally, a group of 40 Democrats, led by Rep. Shontel Brown, recently proposed a resolution to designate June as Black Music Month. This initiative aims to educate and celebrate the influence of black music on American society. The resolution has garnered support from organizations such as the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Louis Armstrong House Museum.
The announcement of the concert comes as a part of ongoing efforts to recognize and celebrate black music and its impact on American culture.
