A woman, Anna Cavak, is set to be extradited to New York City to face murder charges after allegedly stabbing her father, Peter Cavak, to death inside his Queens home earlier this month. She claimed her father was in a cult and had abused her.
The incident occurred in Ozone Park on 109th Avenue, where Anna allegedly fled the scene after stabbing her father during a confrontation. She screamed to her mother, Maria Clement, that her father was trying to kill her before the fatal stabbing took place.
When Maria rushed to the bedroom, she found her husband on the floor, covered in blood, with Anna on top of him holding a stun gun. Detectives later confirmed the scene.
After fleeing, Anna was tracked down by police in New Jersey and arrested. She then told authorities about her father’s alleged abusive behavior and claimed it led to the death of her sister, who she said committed suicide.
Peter had no criminal history, but was named in domestic incidents involving Anna, including accusations of abuse. He was also mentioned in a child abuse complaint where Anna was the alleged victim.
James Clement, Peter’s stepson, mentioned that Peter was a retired MTA bus driver who suffered from trauma and abuse. Despite Anna’s mental health issues, James believed her accusations of ongoing abuse.
James expressed his belief that Anna’s actions were a result of neglect and trauma she experienced throughout her life. He described the incident as an extreme act possibly caused by a psychotic break.
