The Media watchdog Ofcom has decided not to investigate Channel 4 News after Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party claimed that the broadcaster used an actor as a “plant” in an undercover investigation into his campaign.
Ofcom received over 270 complaints about Channel 4 News’s program titled “Undercover inside Reform’s campaign.” However, Ofcom has concluded that these complaints do not warrant further investigation.
Channel 4 has denied any involvement with Andrew Parker, who appeared in Reform’s general election campaign in Clacton and made derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Ofcom has urgently assessed the complaint and found no substantive issues requiring further investigation.
Reform’s party secretary Adam Richardson wrote to the Electoral Commission stating that it was evident that Mr. Parker was a plant within the Channel 4 News piece.
Mr. Parker has apologized for his remarks but claimed he was “goaded” into making them. He expressed satisfaction that Channel 4 is being reported to the Electoral Commission.
A spokesperson for Channel 4 News reiterated that they did not know or pay Mr. Parker, and that they met him for the first time at Reform UK’s campaign headquarters in Clacton during the undercover investigation.
The Epoch Times reached out to Reform for comment. PA Media contributed to this report.
