Tragedy struck in New York City as two people lost their lives and nine others were injured, with four in critical condition, after a pickup truck plowed into a group celebrating the Fourth of July holiday. The incident occurred on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where a Ford F-150 sped down a street, disregarding traffic signs, and careened onto the sidewalk and into Corlears Hook Park.
Chief Jeffrey Maddrey of the New York Police Department reported that two victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Among the injured were four individuals in critical condition, three with serious injuries, and two with minor wounds, according to Assistant Chief Michael Meyers of the New York City Fire Department.
First responders found the truck on top of four victims, prompting swift rescue efforts to extricate them before medical assistance could be administered. While authorities do not suspect terrorism as a motive, they are investigating the driver for potential alcohol involvement, as per Chief Maddrey.
At this time, the ages of the victims remain unconfirmed, with ongoing efforts to gather pertinent information surrounding the tragic event. The community mourns the loss of life and prays for the swift recovery of those injured in this devastating incident.
