A judge known for being lenient released an accused drug dealer who allegedly received a package containing cocaine and fentanyl at the dental office where she works, despite prosecutors’ request for a high bail amount, according to documents.
Madelyn Javier was granted supervised release by Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Valentina Morales on June 28, even though New York City Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan had asked for a substantial bail of $100,000 cash or $150,000 bond, as per the records.
Drug agents traced a UPS package from California to Esthetix Dental Spa in Washington Heights, where Javier was employed on June 27. A criminal complaint stated that she accepted the box and provided her identification to an undercover agent posing as a UPS delivery person.
Five minutes later, another agent entered the office and found Javier, a 31-year-old from Washington Heights, with the box open in front of her, as per prosecutors in the complaint.
The package had been flagged by a drug dog on the West Coast to agents on June 26.
Upon inspecting the box, a detective discovered two brick-shaped packages and three plastic baggies containing numerous pills.
A field test indicated approximately eight ounces of cocaine and fentanyl, which was suspected to be for resale, the document mentioned.
Javier, facing two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, pleaded not guilty and was required to surrender her passport as part of her release, according to records.
There was no immediate response from her attorney when contacted on Friday.
Morales, a former public defender and appointee of Mayor Bill de Blasio, has released at least four allegedly violent criminals in the last three years, including a Venezuelan migrant who stabbed a man with a bottle in Times Square, necessitating 20 stitches.
