Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) shared the good news on Friday that she is now cancer-free after a recent visit to the Mayo Clinic for a routine exam. This comes after successfully treating Stage 1 breast cancer in 2021. During the exam, a small calcification was found and removed, with a few days of precautionary radiation scheduled for this month.
Senator Klobuchar emphasized the importance of early detection and regular follow-up appointments in achieving this positive outcome. She urged everyone to prioritize routine screenings and exams for their health.
Reflecting on her experience, Senator Klobuchar stated, “Our health is not something we can ever take for granted, and this is another reminder that each day is a gift.”
Senators from both sides of the aisle expressed their joy at the news, with Senator Tina Smith (D-Minn.) and Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) sending their well wishes.
In 2021, Senator Klobuchar underwent a lumpectomy, radiation, and follow-up visits for her breast cancer treatment. This period was also marked by the passing of her father, Jim Klobuchar.
Having served in the Senate since 2007, Senator Klobuchar is seeking reelection for a fourth term. Prior to her Senate career, she was the top prosecutor in Hennepin County and ran for president in 2020.
