A 22-year-old woman from Los Angeles was arrested on July 12 in connection with the tragic death of her 3-year-old son due to an apparent overdose at their home in the Winnetka neighborhood.
Authorities were called to the residence on Sherman Way around 11:20 a.m. where the woman, Jestice James, found her twin boys unresponsive. Emergency services rushed the children to the hospital, but unfortunately, one of them, Josiah James, passed away at 12:24 p.m. on the same day. The cause of death was pending an autopsy.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the children had ingested or been exposed to an unknown substance. The LAPD took the mother and other residents of the home in for questioning.
Jestice James was later arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held on a $2 million bail.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene where neighbors tried to perform CPR on the children before paramedics arrived. The incident has left the community in shock and disbelief.
“I came in, there’s a kid sitting on the table and I started giving him CPR, and my friend says, ‘Oh my God, there’s another one,” neighbor Chris Burko recounted to the news station.
