Global Affairs Canada has announced that the sale of one of its apartments in New York City will cover the cost of a new luxury condo recently purchased for $9 million. The Canadian government owns two apartments at a Park Avenue building in Manhattan, with one serving as the official residence for the consul general in New York and the other used by Bob Rae, Canada’s ambassador to the United Nations.
The department has decided to sell the former apartment, but the listed price has not been disclosed. A spokesperson mentioned that the new condo was purchased because the old unit does not meet the department’s standards and is not up to code.
