An 89-Year-Old Comedian Assaulted in West Village
An 89-year-old performer, officially recognized as the world’s oldest working female comedian, was left shocked after being randomly attacked by a crazed woman in the West Village, she revealed in an interview with The Post on Thursday.
Dâyan Forest, also known as Diana Shulman, was on her way to a local gym for a swim when she was unexpectedly punched in the face around 8:50 a.m. on July 10, causing her to fall to the ground.
According to Forest, the attacker had just assaulted a homeless man before targeting her at the corner of Seventh Avenue South and West 11th Street.
After the attack, the assailant fled the scene, leaving Forest with a bloody eye. Despite the physical and emotional trauma, Forest managed to continue with her scheduled rehearsals for an upcoming performance.
Forest, who holds the Guinness record for the oldest working female comedian, expressed concerns about the impact of the injury on her upcoming 90th birthday show. She also highlighted the increased presence of homeless individuals in the area and called for more support for mental health services.
Despite the ordeal, Forest remains resilient and plans to address the incident in her upcoming gig titled â90 Years of Songs and Scandal.â
Forest, a cabaret performer with a colorful dating history, has always felt safe in New York City but noted a recent surge in homelessness in her neighborhood.
The assault on Forest comes on the heels of a similar incident involving actor Steve Buscemi, highlighting the growing concerns about random attacks on individuals in the city.
Forest, known for her vibrant personality and humor, is determined to turn this traumatic experience into material for her performance, showcasing her resilience and humor in the face of adversity.
