A woman who police say targeted a baby and his parents at close range and opened fire in Philadelphia has been taken into custody.
The suspect’s identity will be revealed once formal charges are filed, as reported by the local ABC affiliate.
Disturbing video footage captured the moment the woman walked up and fired shots at the 7-month-old infant and his parents outside a residence.
She yelled, “F—k your baby, b—h!” as the child’s mother screamed in terror.
“My baby!” the child’s mother cried out as the baby wailed, as shown in the video.
The infant, who remains unidentified, was in a stroller when the assailant fired shots, hitting him in the leg. Fortunately, he survived and is in stable condition, according to authorities.
When law enforcement arrived at the scene, the parents were not present. A Good Samaritan took the baby to the hospital.
The incident occurred at around 5:51 p.m. on Thursday in the Holmesburg area of the city.
“We are very fortunate that the 7-month-old boy is in stable condition,” stated Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.
Authorities mentioned that the parents, who were unharmed, do not reside in the neighborhood, and the reason for their presence there is unknown.
Neighbors expressed relief that the baby survived.
“I work with children. I’m a day care teacher, so it hits home,” said Bobby DelPiano of Northeast Philadelphia.
