In Humboldt, Tennessee, a shocking incident occurred where a 12-year-old girl has been charged with murder for allegedly smothering her 8-year-old cousin while she was sleeping. The tragic event took place on July 15 in their shared bedroom, and it was captured on a security camera, as confirmed by Gibson District Attorney Frederick Agee.
The footage showed the older girl using bedding to suffocate her cousin who was sleeping in the top bunk. After the incident, the 12-year-old cleaned up the victim and repositioned her body, according to Mr. Agee’s statement.
It was reported by a relative to WREG-TV that the argument between the two girls escalated over an iPhone shortly after their arrival to stay with their grandmother.
The 12-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence after the authorities obtained the video evidence. Mr. Agee expressed his deep concern over this heinous act, stating that it is one of the most disturbing cases his office has prosecuted.
Mr. Agee plans to request a judge to transfer the case to adult court due to the severity of the crime. This would potentially result in a longer sentence, either through incarceration or supervised conditions.
