A recall has been issued for a brand of baby cereal in Canada due to potential Cronobacter contamination.
Calgary-based Baby Gourmet Foods is pulling its Banana Raisin Oatmeal Organic Whole Grain Cereal from all retailers, both in-store and online. The affected product comes in 227 g packages.
Cronobacter bacteria can lead to severe or deadly infections in the bloodstream, central nervous system, and intestines.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency initiated the recall after conducting tests that indicated contamination.
According to the company, only the Banana Raisin Oatmeal Organic Whole Grain Cereal is affected by the recall. There have been no reported incidents related to the product thus far.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled cereal are advised to either discard it immediately or return it to the place of purchase.
