Liberal MP Anita Vandenbeld did not issue a full apology today after causing a disturbance that led two witnesses to walk out of a parliamentary committee hearing.
Vandenbeld expressed her deep regret for the “distress that this meeting caused the witnesses” on July 31.
The MP diverted the House of Commons status of women committee meeting from the planned discussion on domestic violence, accusing the Conservatives of rushing the agenda.
Vandenbeld accused the Tories of politicizing the issue and quickly shifted the conversation to abortion rights.
This move came shortly after the committee heard emotional testimonies about personal experiences of intimate partner abuse.
Advocates Cait Alexander and Megan Walker left the meeting visibly frustrated as it became chaotic, with Alexander accusing Vandenbeld of “abusive” behavior.
