An off-duty city correction officer reportedly shot a teenage mugger who stole his cellphone during a daylight robbery in Brooklyn on Sunday, as per police and sources.
Ryan Straker, aged 19, assaulted the off-duty officer, a 54-year-old man, and snatched his cellphone during the robbery at around noon on Snediker Avenue near Linden Boulevard in Brownsville, according to authorities and law enforcement sources.
The officer was carrying a gun, which apparently discharged during a scuffle between the two men, authorities and sources stated.
The teenager was transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center and was reported to be in stable condition, according to the police.
He was charged with second-degree attempted robbery, third-degree assault, and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, authorities mentioned.
The off-duty officer, who did not require hospitalization after the altercation, had not been charged in relation to the shooting as of Tuesday.
The city Department of Correction directed any inquiries to the NYPD.
