An Ohio Father Sentenced to Life in Prison for Killing Three Sons
An Ohio father has been sentenced to life in prison for the tragic shooting deaths of his three young sons. Chad Doerman, 33, took his firearms out of his gun safe on June 15, 2023, and shot his sons Clayton, 7, Hunter, 4, and Chase, 3, after telling them he loved them.
Doerman pleaded guilty to the murders and was sentenced to three consecutive life terms, along with an additional 16 years for assault charges related to injuring his wife and stepdaughter during the incident. The shocking murders took place at the family home in Monroe Township, Ohio.
Clermont County Prosecuting Attorney Mark J. Tekulve shared chilling details about Doerman’s behavior leading up to the murders. He called his father and cryptically mentioned that “Clayton is going to be the hardest one,” hinting at the tragic events that would unfold later that day.
Doerman’s actions leading up to the murders appeared normal, with no indication of the tragedy to come. However, he later opened his gun safe, causing concern for his wife, Laura. Despite her fears, Doerman proceeded to shoot his sons, leading to a harrowing scene in the family’s master bedroom.
Laura Doerman, who was injured in the shooting, expressed relief at the sentencing, stating that knowing her former husband will spend the rest of his life behind bars brings closure. She fondly remembered her sons and emphasized that their lives were more than just the tragic events that took them from her.
Despite the heartbreaking loss, Laura Doerman urged others to remember her sons for the joy they brought to life and the love they shared with each other. She concluded by saying, “I love you Clayton, Hunter, and Chase.”
