Throughout his presidential campaign, the candidate has criticized mainstream media for what he views as biased coverage and censorship. He also shared a story about how he and friends found a dead bear and placed it in Central Park as a prank, which caused a media frenzy. The candidate resurrected this story in response to a forthcoming feature in The New Yorker that included the bear anecdote and a report on his campaign. The reaction on social media has been varied, with government agencies confirming the bear’s cause of death as consistent with a high-speed collision. In April 2023, Robert Kennedy Jr. announced his candidacy to challenge President Joe Biden for the 2024 Democrat Party’s presidential nomination. However, after facing obstacles from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and accusing them of favoring Biden in the primary, Kennedy decided to run as an independent in October 2023.
