California Highway Patrol Officers End Lengthy Chase with Daring Maneuver
Exciting video footage captured the intense moment when California Highway Patrol officers successfully ended a prolonged Sunday night chase with a skillful driving maneuver. The officers executed a PIT maneuver, causing the fleeing car to spin around as sparks flew out from the suspect’s wheel wells due to the tires disintegrating from the stress.
In the thrilling video, a white sedan can be seen speeding down the 105 Freeway with sparks shooting out from beneath the vehicle, as shown in a video posted by ABC 7.
The cruiser closely approaches the car and bumps its back end to execute the PIT maneuver, a driving tactic that forces the fleeing car to turn quickly and lose control.
After the daring action, two men and a woman exited the vehicle and were promptly taken into custody, as reported by ABC.
The chase, which had lasted over two hours involving two different cars, began around 8 p.m. when the LAPD started pursuing a possibly stolen black sedan in southern Los Angeles neighborhoods, according to ABC 7.
Despite the suspect running red lights, the driver maintained the speed limit and did not drive recklessly through various LA neighborhoods.
Five police SUVs trailed the car closely, refraining from ending the chase due to concerns that the suspects might be armed.
After more than an hour, the black car pulled into a commercial parking lot, and the driver fled on foot, jumping into a waiting white sedan that accelerated at high speeds.
The white sedan sped towards the 101 Freeway near downtown Los Angeles, reaching speeds of over 100 mph once on the highway.
The driver led the authorities on a chase south on the 710 freeway before heading onto the 110 north and eventually returning to the same southeast LA streets from where the pursuit began.
By this time, the California Highway Patrol had joined the pursuit, attempting to spike-strip the tires multiple times.
At one instance, the car appeared to crash, and an individual exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
The LAPD confirmed that the original driver of the black Lexus was not in the white vehicle when it was disabled. However, the individual was apprehended separately by officials.
