In a tragic turn of events, former professional football player Cierre Wood has been sentenced to prison for the death of his girlfriend’s 5-year-old daughter in April 2019 at his Las Vegas apartment.
Wood, a former NFL and Canadian Football League running back, struck a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and felony child abuse earlier this year. As a result, he has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 10 years for the murder charge. Additionally, he must serve between 28 months and six years for the child abuse charge, with the sentences to be served consecutively.
Although prosecutors initially filed several felony counts of child abuse against Wood, they were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. Wood entered an Alford plea, formally admitting guilt while maintaining his innocence.
Wood, who played for the University of Notre Dame and had brief stints in the NFL and CFL, now faces a long prison sentence for his role in the tragic death of La’Rayah Davis.
It was determined by the coroner’s office that La’Rayah Davis died on April 9, 2019, due to blunt force injuries.
