Vice President Kamala Harris has agreed to participate in two debates against former President Donald Trump, according to the Harris-Walz 2024 campaign. One debate is scheduled for Sept. 10 on ABC, and the second will occur in October on an undisclosed network at a time yet to be announced.
The campaign spokesman, Michael Tyler, stated that the debate discussions are settled, with the Trump campaign accepting a total of three debates – two presidential and one vice presidential. Tyler confirmed that Harris and Trump will share the debate stage once again in October.
Following Vice Presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance’s acceptance of an Oct. 1 debate on CBS against Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Tyler’s statement implied that Walz will participate in the debate as well.
Trump has advocated for additional debates with his opponent, emphasizing the importance of public engagement. He had negotiated three potential debate dates with Harris on major networks, including ABC, NBC, and Fox News.
While Harris had initially declined a proposed Sept. 4 debate on Fox, she later confirmed her participation in the Sept. 10 debate on ABC. Both Trump and Vance have expressed their preference for live audience debates in the future.
If Harris does not accept the proposed Sept. 4 and Sept. 25 debates, Trump has indicated his willingness to hold solo town hall meetings on those dates instead.
Trump expressed his anticipation for all three debates in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social. The Sept. 4 event on Fox News, now a town hall meeting, will take place in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. On Sept. 25, NBC will host an event in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Overall, the debate schedule between Harris and Trump is set to provide the American people with multiple opportunities to witness the candidates engage in critical discussions.
