OTTAWA—Renowned broadcaster Charles Adler and accomplished Saskatchewan hospital executive Tracy Muggli have been appointed as Canada’s newest independent senators.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the announcement of their appointments today.
Adler, who arrived in Canada as a refugee from Hungary at a young age, has had a distinguished career spanning over 50 years as a radio host and journalist.
According to a news release from the prime minister’s office, Adler, who will be representing Manitoba, has used his platform to advocate for human rights and Canadian democracy throughout his career.
Muggli is described as a registered social worker, former provincial public servant in the health and social services sectors, and the current executive director of St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.
Both new senators were appointed by Gov. Gen. Mary Simon after being recommended by the independent advisory board for senate appointments established in 2016.
