Authorities in Dayton, Ohio, are investigating a tragic incident where a 12-year-old girl was fatally shot while sleeping in her bed. The shooting took place early Friday when multiple shots were fired into three homes in the city.
Dayton police Maj. Brian Johns stated that the reason for the shootings is not yet clear, and there were no other reported injuries. The investigation suggests that there may have been at least two shooters involved in the incident.
The shootings occurred around 1 a.m., with over 30 rifle casings found at the scene. The houses, located next to each other, were targeted from the street with multiple shots hitting each one.
The young girl, whose identity has not been disclosed, was in an upstairs bedroom at the time of the shooting. Her father and 11-year-old sister were also present in the home. It remains unknown if anyone was inside the other two homes during the shooting.
