According to anthropologist Xiang Biao from Oxford University, the younger generation, especially Gen Z, is awakening to a harsh reality. The promise of a prosperous future after years of hard work no longer holds true, leading to disappointment and disillusionment.
This disillusionment is not limited to the younger generation, as even China’s millionaires and billionaires are moving their assets out of the country due to the increasing risks of doing business in China. The CCP is attempting to sell a new “China Dream” to the people, despite having turned their previous dreams into nightmares.
The wealth and size of the middle class in China are dwindling, as evidenced by the growing riches of Party members. The Party’s attempts to instill Marxist ideologies or nationalistic fervor are unlikely to sway the disillusioned populace.
