Russia’s Foreign Ministry has recently added 92 Americans to its list of individuals banned from entering the country. This move comes in response to what the ministry describes as the “Russophobic course pursued by the Biden administration.” The list includes journalists, law enforcement officials, and tech leaders who have been permanently denied entry into the Russian Federation.
Following the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the United States, the European Union, and other allies have imposed various sanctions on Russian businesses and individuals, including billionaire oligarchs and their close family members. Among the new names added to Russia’s no entry list are staff members of prominent American newspapers such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and The Washington Post.
In addition to journalists, the list also includes CEOs of software and tech companies, military personnel, and university professors. The Russian Foreign Ministry has cited reasons such as alleged anti-Russia activities and ties to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine for the inclusion of these individuals on the list.
This is not the first time Russia has issued a list of Americans barred from entering the country. Last year, Moscow released another no entry list that included former U.S. President Barack Obama, senators, late-night TV host Stephen Colbert, and other high-profile figures. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, over 2,000 Americans are currently prohibited from entering Russia.
In June, Russia also blocked 81 Western media sites from 25 European nations, accusing them of spreading inaccurate information about the war in Ukraine.
