The New York Police Department (NYPD) is actively searching for three teenage muggers who brutally attacked a woman in Central Park earlier this month. Incidents of robberies in the park have been increasing.
The suspects, believed to be between 15 to 17 years old, approached a 27-year-old woman at 67 West Drive in the park around 11:45 p.m. on August 11. They forcibly took her phone, purse, and later used her credit card.
The NYPD released video and photos of the suspects walking in a building lobby. Descriptions of the suspects were also provided, including their clothing and physical build.
There has been a significant increase in robberies in Central Park this year compared to the previous year. A total of 34 robberies have been reported so far, up from 13 in the same period last year.
Earlier this month, an 11-year-old boy apprehended in a subway robbery in Queens was linked to a series of robberies in Central Park involving a group of migrant boys or young men.
NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell revealed that up to 12 migrant individuals have been connected to around 10 robberies in Central Park. The overall trend of robberies in the park has been on the rise in recent months.
