The popular game Yahtzee was first created by a Canadian family in the mid-twentieth century. Originally known as the Yacht Game, it was played on their yacht with friends and was inspired by a dice game called Yacht. The rights to the game were later acquired by toymaker Edwin Lowe, who rebranded it as Yahtzee and registered the trademark with the US Patent Office in 1956. Interestingly, the game is known by different names in various regions, such as Yatzy in Scandinavia, Yams in France, and variations like Yatzi and Yazzi in parts of Great Britain and Italy. According to Google NGrams, the word Yahtzee accounts for approximately 0.00000226% of all English literature and saw a peak in usage in 2017.
