A Teen Arrested for Stealing Memorabilia from Rick Pitino’s Office
A teenager has been arrested for allegedly stealing memorabilia during a heist inside legendary St. John’s University basketball coach Rick Pitino’s office last month, according to authorities. The 17-year-old turned himself in to the police for his involvement in the robbery, which also implicated his alleged accomplice, 25-year-old Emanuel Yakubov.
The young bandit was charged with burglary and criminal trespass for breaking into Pitino’s office and stealing items such as a ceremonial dagger and a bullhorn. The duo also allegedly took several bottles of alcohol, a mask, and a signed basketball.
Surveillance footage from the heist showed the teenager and his accomplice walking through Carnesecca Arena, with one holding a bullhorn and the other a dagger, seemingly unconcerned about concealing their identities.
Authorities also suspect the involvement of a 12-year-old in the crime, although they have yet to locate him or determine his role.
Yakubov was apprehended shortly after the robbery and denied the accusations against him. Pitino, on the other hand, humorously lamented the theft of his alcohol collection in a social media post.
