Two individuals engaged in a shootout over a parking spot in the Bronx, resulting in a female bystander getting injured and one of the gunmen fighting for his life, as per sources and law enforcement officials.
The altercation began when a 66-year-old man brandished a gun during a dispute over the parking spot, leading his opponent to shoot him multiple times in the chest near Bryant Avenue and Jennings Street in Crotona Park East around 9 a.m., sources and authorities reported.
A 48-year-old woman, described by the police as an unintended victim, sustained a minor injury to her ankle during the crossfire between the two men.
The injured 66-year-old was swiftly taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition, while the woman is reported to be in stable condition, according to law enforcement.
The gunman reportedly fled towards the south on Bryant Avenue and is currently at large.
It remains uncertain whether the gunman sustained any injuries.
This incident occurred amidst a 12.5% increase in shooting incidents in the 42nd Precinct compared to the same period last year, with 27 shootings recorded as of September 1, as per NYPD data.
