Following a tragic accident, authorities in Old Lyme, Conn., have recovered the bodies of two men who had been missing for four days after a boat crash. The incident occurred when a boat carrying nine people hit a jetty along the Connecticut shoreline.
The first body was found by state environmental conservation police officers in the mouth of the Connecticut River between Old Saybrook and Old Lyme, not far from the crash site. The second man’s body was discovered later in the day by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
Names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of their families. The crash also claimed the life of Christopher Hallahan, 34, of Westbrook, Connecticut, and injured six others who were hospitalized.
The accident took place near an Old Saybrook marina where the river meets Long Island Sound. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
The passengers, returning from a trip to Block Island, Rhode Island, were not wearing life jackets, authorities revealed. The search effort for the missing individuals involved various resources such as divers, drones, aircraft, sonar, and underwater vehicles equipped with cameras.
This incident occurred in a location where a previous boat crash happened on Labor Day 2023, resulting in four people being hospitalized. Despite this, environmental conservation police stated that the area is not considered particularly dangerous.
