A manhunt is underway in southeastern Kentucky for Joseph A. Couch, 32, suspected in a shooting incident on Interstate 75 that left five people wounded and nine vehicles damaged. Authorities recovered Couch’s SUV near the crime scene and later found a rifle they believe was used in the shooting. The search is concentrated in the remote area north of London, with law enforcement urging caution as Couch is considered armed and dangerous. The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and residents are on edge as the search continues in the densely forested region. The wounded individuals are in stable condition, with some sustaining serious injuries. The community is coming together in prayer for the victims and first responders involved in the incident. Cody Shepherd, a local resident, described the tense atmosphere in the area as rumors spread and authorities work to locate the suspect. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities maintaining a contained area as they search for the shooter.
âHe may be concealed behind a tree while we unknowingly approach him.â
âWe are optimistic for a positive outcome,â Acciardo stated.
In a Facebook video update late Saturday night, London Mayor Randall Weddle sought to reassure the public. He advised residents to contact 911 if they notice anything suspicious in their vicinity.
âWe urge everyone not to venture outside and take matters into their own hands, as there could be emergency responders in the area. Your safety is paramount. Various agencies are actively involved in the search efforts within the city of London and Laurel County,â Weddle emphasized.
Weddle mentioned that search teams have a general idea of the individual’s whereabouts but refrained from disclosing specific information.
âI am in communication with the Kentucky State Police and our Office of Homeland Security, and we are closely monitoring the situation, offering assistance as needed,â Gov. Andy Beshear posted on X. âPlease keep everyone affected in your thoughts and prayers.â
