‘Give me my ticket, bro so I can go, I’m going to be late,’ Hill says in the video.
Body camera footage of a traffic stop involving Miami Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill has been released by police in Miami. Hill was removed from his vehicle and handcuffed by police officers before Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, marking the Dolphins’ first game of the 2024–2025 season.
During the incident, captured in the video released on Monday, officers questioned Hill about not wearing a seatbelt. Hill responded by saying, “Don’t knock on my window like that.”
Despite the officer’s instructions to roll down his window, Hill refused and demanded his ticket to leave as he was running late. The situation escalated, leading to Hill being asked to exit the vehicle.
Eventually, officers forcefully removed Hill from the car and placed him on the ground, resulting in his arrest. Despite the ordeal, Hill went on to play in the game and performed well, racking up 130 receiving yards and scoring a touchdown.
Following the incident, Hill expressed feeling embarrassed and shell-shocked in an interview with CNN. The Miami Police Department stated that an Internal Affairs investigation has been initiated to review the matter and one of the officers involved has been placed on administrative leave.
The Miami Dolphins released a statement expressing disappointment in the officers’ actions during the arrest, calling it a misuse of power. They urged the police department to take swift and strong action against the involved officers.
Teammates Jonnu Smith and Calais Campbell also became involved in the incident when they approached the scene. Smith was ordered to leave, while Campbell was briefly handcuffed for not complying with officers’ instructions.
Hill received citations for careless driving and failing to wear a seatbelt but was not arrested. An internal affairs investigation is ongoing to assess the situation further.
This is not the first time Hill has faced legal issues, with previous accusations of domestic violence incidents. Despite these past incidents, Hill was not penalized by the Kansas City Chiefs or the NFL under the league’s personal conduct policy.
