A 70-year-old female sextortionist targeted a teenage boy in Minnesota, convincing him to send nude photos and then extorting over $2,000 from him. Stephanie Godby, from Tennessee, allegedly threatened to share the explicit images with the boy’s friends and family if he did not comply, according to Fox 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul.
Authorities were alerted to the scam in 2022 and discovered that Godby may have targeted other victims. Records show that her Venmo account received similar payments from individuals across the country.
One transaction included a message stating, “leave my husband alone for good, this is all you’re getting from me.”
The teenage victim, now 19, initially paid $1,700 to Godby’s Venmo account to prevent the distribution of the photos. However, the demands for money continued, and he ultimately sent a total of $2,204.54 by the time authorities intervened.
Although Godby’s personal information is linked to the Venmo account, including her birth date, social security number, phone number, and address, she remains at large.
Godby has been charged with coercion and theft by swindle in her absence.
