Ohio Grandmother Admits to Shooting 6-Month-Old Granddaughter
An Ohio grandmother confessed to deliberately shooting her sleeping 6-month-old granddaughter in the face, showing no remorse for her actions.
Mia Desiree Harris, 43, went on a violent rampage, firing shots at the baby’s bedroom door before breaking it down and shooting the baby in the eye with a 9-milimeter pistol, as detailed in court documents.
During the incident on Dec. 9, 2023, Harris also physically assaulted other family members, including punching one in the face and attempting to shoot another in the head at close range but missing before ultimately shooting the baby.
Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones stated that the family was arguing in their Liberty Township home when Harris grabbed the weapon, according to WXIX.
Despite her actions, Harris showed no remorse, stating that the baby was not her grandchild and expressing a “sorry, not sorry” attitude when questioned about the shooting, as testified by Detective Daniel Turner.
Investigators discovered that Harris harbored deep resentment towards her family, believing they were trying to take her money and leave. She expressed a desire to “crucify” her family, according to Turner.
Harris pleaded guilty to a felony assault charge for the shooting, as reported by Journal-News. Additional charges related to other assaults on family members were dismissed in exchange for the plea.
The baby, Myra, miraculously survived the attack and is recovering well beyond expectations, according to the Journal-News.
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office responded to the family home after receiving a report that the baby had been shot. Myra was found in critical condition with a gunshot wound to her face and underwent multiple surgeries.
Harris faces a potential 15-year prison sentence for her actions, as she remains in custody at the Butler County Jail awaiting sentencing on Oct. 29.
