Early Monday morning, a woman was assaulted by a stranger as she exited a train on the Upper West Side. This incident occurred less than 12 hours after a man was slashed inside a different subway station downtown, according to police.
The 28-year-old woman had just alighted from an uptown No. 3 train at West 96th Street and Broadway at around 5:15 a.m. when a man unexpectedly punched her in the face, authorities reported.
The victim received treatment at the scene, and the unidentified attacker fled. As of later that morning, the assailant was still at large, the police said.
In a separate incident on Sunday evening, a 25-year-old man was slashed in the arm on the uptown F train platform at Second Avenue and East Houston Street, authorities said.
The perpetrator, armed with a knife, fled on foot following the assault that occurred just after 6 p.m., according to the police.
The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The motive behind this attack remains unclear.
The suspect was described as having a dark complexion and was last seen wearing dark clothing and a blue bandanna.
