A Scottish Law Restricts Activities Near Abortion Clinics
In September, a new Scottish law was implemented to establish 200-meter “safe access” zones around abortion clinics. The law aimed to safeguard women seeking abortion from potential harassment. However, the government has recently issued letters to residents within these zones, warning them of potential imprisonment of up to six months for engaging in activities, including “religious preaching” and “silent vigils,” that could cause distress or alarm to clinic staff and patients. The letters emphasized that individuals could face penalties even if such actions took place on private property or within their own homes.
