A man was brutally attacked with a rock inside a Manhattan subway station on Wednesday afternoon, according to police and witnesses.
The 56-year-old victim was walking in the 14th Street and Eighth Avenue station in Chelsea when the attacker struck him multiple times in the head with a rock around 12:30 p.m., authorities said.
A construction worker who witnessed the assault described it as a severe blow to the head.
The attacker fled the scene after the assault, according to witnesses and law enforcement.
The victim, who sustained head lacerations, was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue for treatment and is in stable condition.
The suspect remains at large as of Wednesday afternoon.
Earlier that same day, a man was fatally stabbed on a subway platform at Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station, according to police.
