As a British person, I must admit that our politics can get a bit crazy at times. However, when it comes to madness, we have nothing on the Americans.
Hailing from London, I had the opportunity to spend election night in Washington D.C. as a political tourist, engaging in conversations with locals as the election results unfolded. It was truly an enlightening experience.
From die-hard Donald Trump and Kamala Harris supporters who had traveled from all corners of the country to be in D.C., to the nerve-wracking watch parties complete with politically-themed cocktails and colorful characters, and the precautionary boarding up of businesses to prevent potential damage amidst concerns of civil unrest – the atmosphere was unlike anything I had ever witnessed back in London.
While we may have had our fair share of political dramas with Brexit, Boris Johnson, and the Liz Truss vs. lettuce debacle, the American political scene is on a whole other level.
From a British perspective, I can confidently say that you guys are truly wild. For a glimpse into my experience on Election Night in D.C., check out the video created by my colleague Krystal Campos.
