Stephen Miller, a long-serving aide of President Trump, has been instrumental in many of Trump’s policy proposals, especially regarding immigration.
Stephen Miller, former senior policy advisor to President-elect Donald Trump, is set to return to the White House as deputy chief of policy in the upcoming Trump administration, Vice President-elect JD Vance confirmed.
Vance, a Senator from Ohio, verified Miller’s appointment on social media.
Since this position is not part of the Cabinet, it does not require Senate confirmation.
Despite changes in personnel around Trump over the years, Miller has been a constant presence on the president-elect’s team since his initial presidential campaign. He has been closely involved in many of Trump’s policy initiatives, particularly those related to immigration.
Prior to joining Trump’s 2016 campaign, Miller worked for several congressional Republicans, including former Representatives Michelle Bachman (R-Minn.) and John Shadegg (R-Ariz.), as well as former Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.).
During his tenure as Sessions’s communications director, Miller played a crucial role in thwarting the Gang of Eight’s 2013 immigration reform bill, which included provisions for a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.
Subsequently, Trump appointed Sessions, one of the bill’s most outspoken critics, as his first attorney general.
Throughout the 2016 campaign, Miller frequently acted as a spokesperson for Trump and energized rally crowds before the candidate’s speeches, which he helped craft.
Following his departure from the White House, Miller has continued to advocate for Trump’s policies and agenda as the president of America First Legal, a conservative nonprofit he co-founded with other former Trump advisors in April 2021.
“Those seeking accountability for the new administration in Washington now have a solution. Our self-imposed policy of legal disarmament has come to an end.”
Miller also actively participated in Trump’s recent campaign, speaking at events ahead of the candidate, including the president-elect’s rally in New York at Madison Square Garden.
“In nine days, your rescue is coming. In nine days, your salvation is at hand,” Miller declared to the audience at the October 27 event.
Characterizing the election as a pivotal moment in American history and Western civilization, he encouraged attendees to use their votes to resist an oppressive political system.
“You have shown love for your country, followed the rules, paid your taxes, done everything right. Yet the system continues to oppress you, oppress you, and oppress you,” Miller remarked.
“I ask you, will you let that system prevail? Will you surrender, or will you follow the lead of President Donald J. Trump and fight, fight, fight until the end to save this nation, this country, this civilization, and this great republic?”
