Tropical Storm Sara has made landfall in northern Honduras, near Brus Laguna, with winds of about 45 miles per hour and moving west at about 10 miles per hour. The storm is expected to bring intense rains to parts of Central America and southern Mexico, including the Yucatan Peninsula. Mexican authorities have issued warnings about potential flooding and landslides.
Sara is forecasted to drop 10 to 20 inches of rain, with isolated areas receiving up to 30 inches. This heavy rainfall could be life-threatening. The storm is expected to continue on its path before heading towards the coast of Belize.
Additionally, Sara is projected to pass over or near Roatan, a popular tourist destination off Honduras’ coast, before turning northwesterly towards Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula.
