Two migrant teens were caught stealing thousands of dollars in designer clothing from a Macy’s store in downtown Brooklyn on Wednesday night, according to law enforcement sources.
Alan Bello, 18, and an unnamed 17-year-old boy took a variety of name-brand clothes during the robbery at the Fulton Street department store around 9 p.m., police said.
They attempted to leave with the stolen items, valued at approximately $2,421, but were stopped by a store employee, as per police reports.
Police arrived at the scene and arrested both teenagers, charging them with grand larceny, according to authorities.
Sources indicated that they are migrants, although their country of origin was not immediately identified.
It was not clear if the duo had any prior arrests in New York City.
In a similar incident earlier this year, Venezuelan migrant Brian Castillos, 22, was arrested for attempting to steal $299 worth of merchandise from the same Macy’s, according to court documents.
He was also apprehended this year for allegedly using a stolen credit card at a Manhattan NBA store and snatching a woman’s necklace during a sidewalk robbery in Hell’s Kitchen, as per those complaints.
